Home inspections have grown in popularity tremendously over the last three decades, with an estimated 75 to 80 percent of buyers now seeking this type of third-person opinion on their purchase. But in hot-seller markets, some buyers have discarded the home inspection contingency from their contracts to ensure their purchase. Bad move, experts say.
It's too great of a risk to make a purchase without an inspection. To be sure, a home inspection summarizes the condition of a property by analyzing things like the heating and central air-conditioning systems, interior plumbing, roof, attic and visible insulation, walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors, foundation, basement and other visible structures of the home.
